Life Lesson: April 10

10 Apr

In times of trouble, may the Lord respond to your cry. Psalms 20 starts with hope in the midst of trouble…

Meditate

Read Psalm 20:1-9. Read it two or three times, very slowly.

Sing
I’ve got the joy joy joy joy
Down in my heart
Down in my heart
Down in my heart
I’ve got the joy joy joy joy
Down in the heart
Down in my heart to stay

I’ve got the peace
That passes understanding
Down in my heart
Down in my heart
Down in my heart
I’ve got the peace
That passes understanding
Down in my heart
Down in my heart to stay

Message
I have problems to solve every day. My car may run poorly yet I need it for errands and appointments. I overlooked my cousin’s birthday two weeks ago. A co-worker keeps annoying me. Psalm 20 tells me that God wants to help me with any difficulty, but I must ask Him with faith in His loving care.

Blessing
Pray for your neighbors on both sides. Leave them a note letting them know.

Move
Deep belly laughs. Really laugh. Let it go and laugh some more. Laugh until you cry.

Create
On a wall in your home, post one goal for today.

Nourish
Make sure you drink 64 ounces of water today. Omit any beverages that contain sodium.

Rest
Find 10 minutes to be still. Do nothing during this time. This is God’s time to renew you in mind, body and spirit.

Recreation
Play catch with the neighborhood children for 30-45 minutes. Treat everyone to a soda.

Pray
Watch the news for 15 minutes and pray quickly for every person or situation as you watch and listen.

Snacks
Prepare a snack to go. Take it to a homebound person and share it.

World Prayer
Prayer for the elected officials of our country. Also pray for those who have run for office and not been elected.

Sleep
Retire 15 minutes earlier than usual.

From morning until night, God wants us to worship and commune with Him. Start your day in His Word and then weave throughout the day these elements of devotion, worship, contemplation and service to others.

Life Lesson: Feb 13

13 Feb

Meditate

Read Exodus 14:10-12. Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!’

Sing
Precious Lord, take my hand,
lead me on, let me stand.
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.
Though the storm, through the night,
lead me on to the light.
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

Message
If you are reading this, I think you are most likely a human being. With that in mind, I think it is fair to say that at one time or another you have said or done something that did not seem very intelligent. These Israelites spent years crying out to God for salvation. Now they are crying to be put back in Egypt. We are not much different. When things get hard, we want to give up. If you have felt this way, you are neither unusual or bad. The key is to move beyond that place.

There are days when it seems too difficult to fight temptation. There are days when it is scary to do what God wants me to do. There are days when I just want to give up and go back to my old life. It is then that I need to recognize the old life for what it was. It was a life of slavery and  a life of pain. It was a life that led to death and there was no hope.

God has a bigger plan for me, but I must take the long journey, in unknown territory to get there.

Blessing
Buy a plant or flower arrangement for your church’s altar. After the service, give it to someone who lives alone.

Move
Sing and do the motions (or make up motions) for:
“Yes, Lord, Yes!
To your will and to your way,
I say, Yes, Lord, Yes!
I will trust you and obey.
When your Spirit speaks to me,
with my whole heart I’ll agree
and my answer will be, Yes, Lord Yes!”

Create
Work with play dough. Watch as God builds something to speak to you!

Nourish
Eat something that grows and you have never eaten before.

Rest
Find 10 minutes to be still. Do nothing during this time. This is God’s time to renew you in mind, body and spirit.

Recreation
Play a game with someone.

Pray
Write prayer concerns on small pieces of paper. Put them in a fire-safe can or fireplace and burn them. As the smoke rises, let God have your concerns and leave them with him.

Snacks
Make some trail mix and share with a neighbor.

World Prayer
Pray for the people in China and persons who suffer under unfair and unsafe labor practices.

Sleep
Before going to bed tonight, give someone a hug. If appropriate, make sure your hug lasts at least 10 seconds.

From morning until night, God wants us to worship and commune with Him. Start your day in His Word and then weave throughout the day these elements of devotion, worship, contemplation and service to others.

Life Lesson: December 12

12 Dec

Meditate
Read Exodus 13:17-22
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and not be afraid. – John 14:27

Sing
Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
Look full in his wonderful face
and the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
in the light of his glory and grace.

Message
“He hurt me!” “He deserves to be punished!” “I can never forgive!” “This is too painful, it’s just killing me!” “I can’t take it anymore!”

We have all spoken words like this at one time or another. The problem is that these are not God’s truth, they are Satan’s lies. We begin to speak these words and begin to believe them when we have taken our eyes off God and look at the situation around us. Just as Peter began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus, we will begin to sink into the lies.

The Israelites did not know where they were going and Satan would have liked them to believe that they were lost and going to die, but the truth was that God was leading them the entire way. All they had to do was look up and keep their eyes fixed on God.

Blessing
Buy a small baby blanket and a little child’s prayer book and send it anonymously to an expectant Father.

Move
Find a picture of Jesus and just look at it. Pray and ask God that although you know this is just an artists representation of Jesus, you want to remember this face and have his eyes before you at all times. Close your eyes and remember the face. If you can not remember the details, look again. Take the time you need, so the picture is in your mind.

Create
Begin to make a list of the attributes of Jesus, using the alphabet. One attribute per letter.

Nourish
Skip the extras today. Skip the extra salt, bread, fat and sugar. For each item you skip, drink some water. Add fresh lemon to your water.

Rest
Find 10 minutes to be still. Do nothing during this time. This is God’s time to renew you in mind, body and spirit.

Recreation
Sit on your porch with a song book. See how far you can get, singing through it.

Prayer
Pray Psalm 3. Read one line at a time and apply it to yourself and your life.

Snack
Try a passion fruit or another fruit you have never eaten.

World Prayer Broadcast
Pray for the people of the United States who are struggling over the issue of abortion and the mothers who may have a decision to make between the life or death of their unborn child.

Sleep

Before going to bed, call or text a special friend or family member and say, “Goodnight, I love You”. Do not get caught on the phone in a conversation. Keep it short.

From morning until night, God wants us to worship and commune with Him. Start your day in His Word and then weave throughout the day these elements of devotion, worship, contemplation and service to others.
